Abel Sports has launched a new 360-degree wheel system for portable football goals, designed to significantly improve safety and manoeuvrability for ground staff, councils, schools and community clubs.

The innovative system was officially unveiled at the recent STA Vic Field Day and Demonstration Day at Casey Fields in Cranbourne East, Melbourne, where turf managers and sports field professionals were able to test the technology in real-world conditions on full-size portable goals.

Our new 360-degree wheel system allows greater maneuverability

Safer, easier movement of portable goals

Moving heavy portable goals has long been a challenge for sports field operators, with traditional fixed-wheel configurations often requiring considerable effort and multiple people to reposition equipment safely.

Abel Sport’s new 360° wheel system enables users to steer portable goals in any direction with far less effort than conventional wheel setups. The enhanced manoeuvrability helps reduce strain on staff and volunteers while supporting safer work practices when setting up and packing down fields for:

  • Training sessions
  • Match days
  • Multi-use field layouts

By making goals easier to move and position precisely, the system is designed to support better workplace safety, reduce the risk of manual handling injuries and improve overall operational efficiency.

Strong interest at STA Vic Field Day

At the STA Vic Field Day, Abel Sports’ display featured football goals in full size fitted with the new wheel assemblies. Attendees were invited to trial the system themselves, experiencing first-hand how easily the goals could be guided, turned and positioned across natural turf.

The positive feedback from turf managers, contractors and council representatives highlighted the demand for practical, user-friendly innovations that directly support field operations and safety standards.

Continuing our commitment to innovation and safety

Founded in Australia, Abel Sports has built a strong reputation for designing and manufacturing durable, compliant and practical sports field equipment for football, cricket and other codes. The new 360° wheel system continues this focus, addressing real-world challenges faced by ground staff, facility managers and community clubs.

Abel Sport will be rolling out the new wheel system to customers in the coming months, supported by:

  • On-field demonstrations
  • Technical guidance
  • Training resources and best-practice advice

These initiatives are aimed at helping organisations integrate the system into their existing equipment fleets and maximise both safety and efficiency in day-to-day operations.

The innovation was launched at the recent STA Vic Field Day and Demonstration Day at Casey Fields in Melbourne’s Cranbourne East

Availability and next steps

Abel Sports will be progressively making the 360° wheel system available across its portable goal range, including football goals in full size and football goals in small (junior) size.

Clubs, schools and councils interested in trialling the system or discussing retrofit options for existing Abel portable goals are encouraged to contact the Abel Sport team.
